Daily Lack Of News - 8th May 2011

Sorry guys, it's been a while since I checked for news and didn't find anything. Sunday's aren't the most active on the news front I suppose...

...Maybe I need to start planning out an article to write on Sundays, they're usually the day lacking in news. I'll work on that, I've only been doing this for a month so it's a learning process. Early doors.

Daily News - 6th And 7th May 2011 - PSN Update And Gabe Newell Talks!

PSN Update!

I dunno how there continues to be new news about this, but here it is:

  • As of today it's been 17 days since PSN went down. That's a long time!
  • The European Playstation blog yesterday said that when the service finally comes back online, that Sony will offer you the choice of 2 PSP games and 2 PS3 games, you wont just get to choose from any games though, Sony will give you the choice out of five PS3 games and four PSP games.
  • Security expert Dr. Gene Spafford, testified against Sony, saying that for months, Sony knew their PSN security was out of date

Gabe Newell Eases The Pain

You might remember a few weeks ago it was reported that a source in Valve said that they wouldn't make any more single player games. Well, Gabe Newell wants you to know that that's not strictly true. Newell says what he meant by that was that nowadays gamers also have instant messaging, and Facebook accounts and they want to figure out a way of incorporating these social aspects into a single player experience, calling it SinglePlayer-Plus. He also basically said that they wouldn't have made Portal take place in the Half-Life universe if Chell and Gordon Freeman weren't gonna cross paths. This has me excited. VERY excited.

Oversized picture of Gordon Freeman? I don't need much of an excuse

Daily News - 5th May 2011 - L.A. Noire, Assassin's Creed and More Fricking PSN Stuff

Sorry guys, forgot to post this last night

L.A Noire To Take Up A Whole Blu-Ray / 3 DVDs

Rockstar's next game, featuring brand new face mapping technology that gives it's character more emotive power than there's ever been in gaming (allegedly ofcourse...) will apparently come as 1 disc for the PS3 but 3 for the Xbox 360. I think this sounds like a great thing. 3 discs worth is a lot of gaming, even Mass Effect 2 only took 2 discs. Now obviously, a game's quality isn't marked by how many discs it comes on, but the number of discs surely implies that the game will be of a meaty length ("meaty length", brain? Really?...)

I've not been very "high" on Rockstar games in the past, they're fun but the story always loses me, so I'm excited to see if L.A. Noire gives me the satisfying story I've been craving with none of the awkward and kinda shitty game play. The good news is we'll find out when the game is released on May 17th (well, supposedly)

Look at the emotion! THE ACTING!

Sony To Get Hacked Again? Service To Be Partially Restored Soon? Anonymous Behind It?

That's right folks, it's your non-negotiable daily PSN update! So there's been a bit more drama in the past few days which I shall attempt to sum up as quickly as possible, for both our sakes.

  • Reports have started coming in that Sony are going to suffer another hack this weekend. I unfortunately can't look up the details right now but it's fairly self explanatory.
  • The cost of repairing the damage to the system, as well as losing money in the various types of compensation Sony will have to offer is expected to cost in the billions
  • Sony are said to be in the final stages of internal testing on their new system, which should mean PSN and their various other online services will follow fairly shortly after.
  • Sony submitted their case to Uniter states Congress. If I know anything about US law, then we should be hearing back about that in a long ass time.
  • Sony, after finding some evidence on the hacked system, accused Anonymous of spear heading the hack attacks, which Anonymous vehemently denied.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations Details Announced

Game Informer, the last bastion of video game magazines, has the scoop on the next entry in the (shitty) Assassin's Creed franchise. Apparently the next game will take place in Constantinople during the Ottoman Empire, and will be the final entry into the Ezio trilogy (I didn't even know it was supposed to be a trilogy). the interesting thing (from a purely objective standpoint ofcourse) is that Ubisoft say as well as keeping the Desmond part of the story intact, the game will also bring Altair back into the fold. How? Probably just through memories, I don't think it's actually even possible for Altair and Ezio to cross paths... well, in a universe where aliens are god, I suppose any bullshit is possible.

"Just fanning him off, officer..."

Daily News - 3rd and 4th May 2011 - Yet MORE PSN News, Fallout DLC and Mass Effect 3

900(ish) More Credit Card Numbers Stolen In Another Sony Hack

The 2nd hack was against Sony Online Entertainment, an MMO developer. The attack was part of the big PSN hack but wasn't noticed until a few days ago. The hack said about 25 million accounts had their information exposed, with near 13,000 users' credit card info also getting "stolen". Great news though! While 13,000 may sound like a lot, Sony say that because the majority were expired cards, the actual figure is closer to 900, which is... umm... oh, still quite a lot actually Sony. Thanks for that. They are offering 30 days free to all of their MMO subscribers though, complete with free Batman-style masks for every DC Universe Online user. So call it even then?...

Good, eh? ...No, you say? Yeah, sorry about that

Fallout: New Vegas DLC Coming

Bethesda announced that starting May 17th they'll be releasing 3 sets of Fallout: New Vegas DLC, 1 a month. The three sets will be called Honest Hearts, Old World Blues and Lonesome Road. Honest Hearts will see the player in the Utah National Park and have them meet the infamous Burned Man; Old World Blues gives you some pre-war weapons and lets loose some mutated Mojave beasties on you and Lonesome Road will tie into the main story somewhat as the old courier of the chip meets the player's character. None of these DLCs will carry on the game's story after completing the game ala Broken Steel for Fallout 3, so personally I don't see the point but the more DLC the better the Game Of The Year Edition, which is always good.

The game had it's momentsMass Effect 3 Delayed

Casey Hudson, executive Producer on the game, said today that Mass effect 3 will be coming out "in the first three months of 2012", a few months after the Christmas-time release they were originally aiming for. Personally I don't see this as a big problem, I could literally wait 10 years for another Mass Effect, so I'm just thankful I don't have to!

BEST GAME! ....Best. Game

Daily News - 2nd May 2011 - Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft and MORE PSN News

Ubisoft Kick Off Next Assassin's Creed Games' Viral Marketing

You can see the start of the campaign by "Like"-ing Assassin's Creed on Facebook. Now, I'm not going to do that personally, because I happen to have the opinion that Assassin's Creed games are fucking terrible, but from what I understand it's a pretty garbled video that some people seem to think implies that the next Assassin's Creed game will be called Revelations and will star Altair. Personally, I couldn't care less. Good times!

SNOOZE!!!Sony Will Give You Playstation Plus For Free! (For 30 Days)

Getting a bit sick of posting about PSN but seeing as there's news about it every day I'm kinda forced to. So it seems like Sony are attempting to make ammends for the outage by giving everyone Playstation Plus for free for a month. It's the least they can do to be perfectly honest, Playstation Plus does get you some free games whilst you're on the service aswell so for 30 days every PSN user will get some free gaming. Got to look at the silver lining I guess!

Ubisoft To Open Up New Film Studio

Well, the world has been crying out for more video game themed films, so this should be great news! Who can forget amazing films based off such credible Ubisoft franchises as Prince Of Persia, and Far Cry, and... well, that's it to be honest. The good news is though that now you'll get to see all Ubisoft's other biggest franchises turned into tripple-A movie titles! Such great games as Assassin's Creed, Raving Rabbids, uh... Splinter Cell... Jesus, it's gonna be terrible.

To see exactly what we're probably in for, take a look at a video from MY personal favourite gaming website Giant Bomb, where they take a look at just how good the Far Cry movie was.

Daily News - 1st May 2011 - More PSN News and some Mortal Kombat DLC

Mortal Kombat DLC Wednesday?

According to a little loose lipped-ness, Toys 'R' Us says that DLC for the new Mortal Kombat will be out on Wednesday. Wouldn't expect anything more than some extra costumes but the timing's right, and if the price is right, who knows? Could end up making them alot of money.

Squeamish? Maybe not the game for you...PSN Hopefully Back This week?

Fingers crossed Sony aren't handing out false hope here but even if they're not "this week" isn't exactly a date that's set in stone. I guess, on the bright side, this week is a damn sight better than next week, especially in a month that's included both Mortal Kombat and Portal 2. If I owned a Playstation 3 exclusively I'd be chomping at the bit to get online with those bad boys!

Daily News - 28th, 29th and 20th April 2011 - PSN, Portal 2 and the Duke!

That's right, due to my near-endless ability to procrastinate it's a triple news post today! That is to say, there's only really been 3 cool news stories within the last 3 days... which isn't much. Also, Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat reviews forthcoming.

Duke Nukem Comic Coming In July - Titled "Glorious Bastard"

The comic contains the one and only Duke Nukem going back in time to help fend off an alien invasion in Nazi Germany. Obviously it's timed to come out at a similar time as Duke Nukem: Forever but it seems more interesting than your average cash-grab. Have a gander at the link below.

Duke Nukem Comic Announced

Hail to the fuhrer, baby!No PSN Credit Card Fraud Detected Yet

Spokemen from Mastercard and American Express have said that no illegal credit card activity has been detected in connection with the Playsation Network Outage. Good news then! Finally!

New Portal 2 DLC Announced!!!

Valve have whetted my appetite already, by announced DLC for Portal 2 due out . Valvse say it will contain a new challenge mode, test chambers, and leaderboards for both single and multiplayer and, best bit...

Will be completely free! Really, how can you argue with that?

Valve loves us so much!

Daily News - 27th April 2011

Bayonetta Developer Commentary Sounds Insane

Hideki Kamiya, the game's director, has decided to play the game all the way through and do commentary throughout. Considering the game is over 8 hours long and each video is gonna be roughly 10 minutes long, this thing could last a while!

Bayonetta Developer's Commentary

What a fantastic, insane gameRed Faction: Armageddon Demo May 3rd

I really enjoyed Red Faction: Guerilla, it was fun and different, so I'm pretty excited for the sequel. The demo hits on May 3rd, the demo will be set in an enemy-infested sewer with the player armed with a nice compliment of destructive weaponry. I'm looking forward to it.

Run bitch, run! He's behind you!!!Jurassic Park Adventure Game Delayed

The good and talented folks at Telltale have unfortunately been forced to push back the release of their adventure game based around the events of the first Jurassic Park film by a few months. All credit to them, they're delaying it to make it as good as possible and the game does look extremely promising. Just check out this clip, found with but a simple Youtube search. I really like the approach they're taking, and if, like me, you hold alot of nostalgia for the original it looks like it's pretty much made for you.

Daily News - 26th April 2011 - More PSN news and Zombies

Sony Confirm: Yes, Your Personal Details Belong To Hackers Now

While they still don't know who was behind it, they do know that it was very likely that those people now have personal data on every Playstation Network user. They have said they don't think any credit card data was stolen (gee, thanks Sony!) but that the information that was likely taken includes: Name, Address, Email Address, Birthday and your PSN login and password. Needless to say the announcement sent Sony's stocks plummeting, but it's not like they couldn't announce something like this. It's such a shame, I feel like (given the incredible circumstances) Sony are handling this extremely well, giving lots of updates and being honest about what's happened, but has too much damage been done? I hope not, for all you PS3 owners out there.

Sony's stocks after the announcement (yikes!) [image from Kotaku]New Zombie Trailer For Black Ops

Treyarch. You've gotta give them credit. Considering the reputation they seem to have gotten (as being the lesser of the 2 COD teams) they know when to get their balls out! This trailer shows the new zombie map included in the upcoming Escalation map pack and stars some absolute legends. I could write their names down but it'll be easier for you to actually believe if you just watch the trailer, below.

Daily News - 24th and 25th April 2011: Valve, E3 and PSN Update

Nintendo's Wii 2 Will Definitely Be "Playable At E3"!

And according to Nintendo that means it'll be playable by the public, on the show floor. This is pretty exciting news! I don't think I'm alone in saying that E3 press conferences have started to become a little stale recently, what with Microsoft and Sony's 10-years cycle in full swing really it's been down to Nintendo to go crazy. They did it last year with the 3DS, and they're doing it this year too. Good on 'em. Good or bad, this is definitely going to be the main talking point on E3, and if all the rumours about Wii 2 turn out to be true?.... It's gonna be a treat!

Are Valve Completely Done With Single-player Experiences?

That's a ridiculous headline. It even looks stupid to me, and I wrote it... But supposedly this was what was implid in a conversation between Gabe Newell (Valve's founder) and the Erik Johnson (Project manager). Game Journalist Geoff Keighley reported the news, saying that what he basically heard was that "Portal 2 will probably be Valve's last game with an isolated single-player experience". That's insane, right?!? I mean Portal 2 does contain seperate co-op, which is supposedly pretty great, but why remove the single player experience all together??? Especially when you're so good at it! Play to your strengths! Which for Valve is I guess everything...

Play well with others? No? Then consider yourself fuckedDoes PSN Have Your Credit Card Info? Then So Might Some Hackers!

Sony came out and that they have absolutely no idea if, when PSN was hacked, the hackers may have stolen your credit card details and/or peronal details. How much worse can this situation get at this point? Unless your Playstation 3 actually got up and actively punched you in the face, not much.

And now, for something a bit lighter...

Gearbox Helps Guy Get Married

This is awesome. A guy wrote to Gearbox Software (makers of Borderlands) and asked them if they might consider helping him propose to his girlfriend. Not expecting much, it turned out the guy got WAY more than he could have possibly imagined. Kotaku has the full story (link below) but to sum up, Gearbox actually made him an awesome video for him to propse with. The actual proposal is below, and gave me a pretty nice feeling of happy... until the post-proposal awkwardness sets in.
